How To Learn About Yourself

So, 10 things I've learned nigh myself. Where do I start?

Well, I know information technology'southward non the New Year, which is when yearly reflection commonly takes identify, but seeing as I enjoy going abyssal diving with my thoughts, I felt information technology appropriate to take my own time and reflect on some things I've learned over the by twelvemonth about myself.  Self-awareness is something I am working on, most of the things I've learned I have known for some time but they accept been reinvented in my life over the past year.

Here goes…

TEN SPECIFIC THINGS I'VE LEARNED Near MYSELF

ane. My health is important.

Yup, this one is pretty straightforward and I'm certain somewhat stupid to re-consider, however, I'm certainly realizing that my age is (somewhat) starting to speak to me. I can't just go out and accept a burger (…repast) at McDonald'due south without Actually feeling the toll anymore. Or sucking down my favorite sweet treats without my rima oris feeling similar it needs a dentist overhaul.

Just more chiefly, I've learned that healthy living isn't just near the nutrient I eat, or exercise I do to stay "good for you".

My health is too based on my environment, the people I am in a relationship with and collaborate with, the choices I brand, what I empathise and know most the earth

— information technology'southward virtually creating a sort of holistic lifestyle with health in mind rather than only eating right and exercising. I recollect beingness healthy is really a land of listen. If you want to be good for you it's discovering and learning WHY it's important (if information technology is important) and what affects it. I know my gut senses unhealthiness, even in relationships or situations. It's non a adept feeling to exist unhealthy, and the journey to discover how to go out of information technology is the cost we must pay in order for information technology to last.

2. Crap happens and it'southward up to me to make the best of information technology.

I have wanted to write something specifically on this point because I call back it'south been a huge part of my life and other people's lives I know and I've had to actually digest and work through my honest thoughts about it.

When crap happens to you over and over again it is exhausting.

It'southward okay to bounce back subsequently 1 tough or unwanted situation BUT if things go along coming up constantly that you either didn't plan for, don't similar and just tin't really get out of, it'southward only flat out exhausting. But the simplest and (not piece of cake) truth is that regardless of how often crap happens to you, you have to continue on fighting.

Don't let just ane situation get at you. Yes, of course, take the time to be human— cry, scream, throw something. But and so pick yourself up, be positive and brand the all-time of it.

I'm merely seeing now (in small-scale glimpses) how some of the things I've gone through a while ago are shaping my personality, or causing me to see things differently than if I hadn't take gone through it. And the truth is existent. These things that happen may never turn into positive things. Information technology's non a promise of sunshine and roses at all. The truth is it may be awful all the same, or sad or difficult. But who we become because of it is priceless if fighting and positive mind is attached to it.

three.I need to be my own cheerleader.

To believe in your own cocky is vital. I've plant that if I don't cheer for myself nearly likely no one else will and I can't expect it either. I am my all-time cheerleader, the best person to believe in who I am and what I am capable of.

ME, has to be plenty for myself.

Information technology'south awesome to have a fan base behind you. But to expect it or rely on it is unhealthy and can lead to disappointment and questioning yourself. If yous know you are cute and believe it, the power of that belief is stronger than whatsoever other person's voice or opinion. In a time where everyone loves to have an opinion about someone else, it's crucial to find your inner strength for yourself. It will be what carries you through.

four. Sometimes if you want something done, yous all-time practise it yourself.

This lesson is a flake of an extension from number iii just does have it's ain place. Waiting for something to happen in life or someone else to practice something for me is tiring, disappointing, and useless. It's groovy working in teams, having partners, and collaborating on something. Information technology's my first option for near things I like to do. Nevertheless, you may non have the luxury of having someone else to become something achieved or done with or for y'all. Yous may only need to step up, effigy information technology out, and practise information technology yourself.

5. "Dearest" isn't enough in a relationship.

You can love someone dearly but accept relationships fail. I am no relationship skillful by any means, however, in my own feel, I've noticed that there needs to be more than but love in a relationship.

Misunderstanding and but straight up non wanting to empathise others has been a key to relationship problems I've faced.

The moment I've chosen (and of class the other person has too) to not be afraid to open up and be clear, honest and willing to have grace for the other person's signal of view is when breakthrough has taken place and things take really inverse. Everyone is and so unlike, and information technology'due south a good affair if our differences tin be embraced rather than become a threat to ane another.

six. I am not defined past what I practice, what I've done or where I'm at in life.

This has been the hardest lesson that I've continued to acquire because I accept really prided myself on what I'one thousand capable of, tin can practise or have washed. I think this lesson is put to it'south truest exam when you're stripped of EVERYTHING y'all had, have or could have. That's when yous're all alone and left to figure YOU out.

I am not defined, worthy, meaningful, precious or of import because of the things I do or take washed.

You are you because of what is behind all of that. What makes you lot happy, your passions, interests, and convictions. What you are naturally drawn to, your quirks and sense of humour or lack of. These things can sometimes get lost behind the hard work or collected persona you give off. They certainly take been for me. Being transparent isn't and shouldn't exist considered a weakness. It'southward your ain unique forcefulness.

Your own self-make.

In a world where we live off of an edited life by comparison our groundwork life to other's highlighted reels, it'due south vital that we sympathize, respect and dear ourselves.

Thrive in being you lot— but make sure to accept the fourth dimension to strip it all away and effigy YOU out first.

7. I need to live for something greater than myself.

This is something that is quite a common cliché and hopefully assumed in life, at least for myself. HOWEVER, figuring it out and agreement what it is for me has been a whole other story. Even though some accept a lifetime to detect what "it" is, all I know Is that living for something more than myself, money, fame or likes is the but mode I can fill my soul with satisfaction and contentment and feel free.

You lot tin move/travel all over the world, work in all sorts of jobs, brand new friends, have loads of money but without giving upwards a place (big or modest) in your life for something more than only your own self, I believe you will never be satisfied.

viii. It's okay to stand up upwards for something and not exist liked considering of it.

Standing upwardly, voicing, and believing in your convictions is important to build your ain backbone. You may come across something or feel something wrong but it takes gut to act on it.

It's not easy to do the right thing or the things you feel convicted about.

The globe loves followers and people who break molds or stand up to things are always pointed out. But information technology's not plenty to just do what everyone else thinks or wants for you lot. It may start off simple in your head, simply what complicates the situation or thing in question is when you lot try and recall of reasons non to practice it or ways out of it or justifications for it being okay/correct. And I'm not talking only about big united nations-ethical or moral convictions fifty-fifty though information technology could be that. I'chiliad talking about things you believe or don't believe in for yourself. Something you lot feel off about doing for your ain health reasons, own convictions or even something that may conflict with your personality.

Continuing up confronting or for something is okay and choosing the harder choices is okay because you leave knowing that it was your choice and no ane else'southward.  And regardless of the outcome your backbone got that much more stronger.

ix. Also many choices can be crippling if you lot become caught in comparing them.

I've found the deeper I get in my thoughts virtually a choice betwixt something and something else, the more stuck I get in comparison the crap out of them. I get-go to weigh out the good and bad and they become equal in their own means and I accept no inkling what to exercise. I've watched numerous TedTalks almost this trouble and nearly all of the professionals cease up with like conclusions.

Their advice is ordinarily centred on not over thinking your choices, even the huge ones.

At present that's not to say yous don't consider the weight of the decision you'll make, just from my own feel I've establish the longer and deeper I go stuck in my head about a conclusion I'm wanting to brand, the more than likely I am to either regret the selection, be unhappy with it or just not cull anything. This kind of self-knowing comes with growing self-awareness and understanding of myself.

I've loved having to brand the all-time of a option that needed to exist made because of restrictions or lack of options, (perhaps not enjoyed all of them, as noted in number 2) or when I was able to make a option and alter information technology equally I went. Happiness and freedom normally follow because you lot're not stuck in comparing the options constantly, or thinking "what if" about life through the eyes of the other pick.

Regret, sadness, dubiousness and un-contentment are the fruit of the path where options begin to counterbalance on your heed. Choosing something, moving on and making it work out (or not) is ever the correct way to go, at least from what I've been discovering.

10. Information technology's okay to not have life, people or situations figured out.

I've constitute that the more I've tried to give communication or empathise a state of affairs/someone the more I realize I just don't know the full picture or that something is a lot deeper than I anticipated.  And you know what, that'southward okay.

But what'south non okay is when I've assumed that I have the right to brand other's "projects" or think I know amend and accept "arrived"… actually anywhere in life.

Sure people have wisdom in older age or become through sure situations that allow you lot say-so to speak well-nigh it nonetheless what I've been learning is that no ane person really should have the right to know more than than another person especially when information technology comes to that other person's life. Parents try and raise their children the best they know-how. They should be the ones that know them the best. Merely how many stories have you heard of children breaking free from parental molds they were trying to be placed in.

The best feeling I've felt for myself is when I've been in situations, or around people I know or take just met where I was gratuitous to share who I was and felt an equal exchange of life.

Now don't get me wrong, I do believe it's healthy and necessary to have people in your life who tin can give a adept verbal butt whippin' sometimes.  But that's not to say I think nosotros should behave ourselves with the championship of "know-it-alls" or "advice givers".

We all have our own journey'south to alive out and WE are the merely ones who stop upwards living and dealing with the things that happen to us. I believe self-awareness is of import, we learn past understanding ourselves, and also we tin can always be learning from others no matter who nosotros are.

I of my favorite authors is Malcolm Gladwell. He's been praised for his unique manner of writing and has written some all-time selling books such equally The Tipping SignalandDavid and Goliath.

His arroyo is considered unique because he expresses things he'southward learned or points he wants to get across from a storytelling point of view and that is—people'due south stories. He takes unpresuming stories and shows them off in a manner that expresses a different perspective on a detail point. This is an approach I want to and am learning to model in my own life. Finding out how there can be a good exchange of life between others and myself I encounter and making people more equal rather than living through a hierarchy.

We may never know someone without understanding him or her properly and taking the time to hear their story with no agenda in mind other than to mind.
